Marci Selena has done extensive research into the developmental, educational, and therapeutic aspects of multicultural dance for preschoolers and terminally ill children. She taught multicultural dance to children with AIDS for ten years in Los Angeles. Based on this experience, she created, developed and implemented an educational therapeutic dance and music program. Marci Selena refined her research while attaining a BA from UCLA and a Master of Education from Harvard. The program uses the preschoolers’ innate enthusiasm for dance and music as a way of cultivating academic skills and supporting mental, physical, emotional, and social development. It strives to expand children’s exposure to their own and other cultures through a universal language. The program also aims to provide healing for children with life-threatening illnesses and to support children affected by terminal illness through the grieving process. |
